About Me
Welcome to Wampler Counseling and Consulting!
My name is Alton Wampler, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I am a male therapist located in Virginia Beach, Virginia where I have been attending school and working since 2014. I completed my bachelor's degree in Psychology from James Madison University and my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University. I have been working in the Hampton University Student Counseling Center since 2018 and most recently finished my position as the Assistant Director of the center. I have also taught classes as an adjunct professor for the Counseling Program at William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.
I specialize in working with men who are looking to improve their connection to themselves and others in their lives. Many of the clients I work with have experienced success in their lives and are wanting to increase their connection to others around them. They generally begin therapy when they are feeling stuck, lonely, dissatisfied, or isolated. Through therapy, these clients have found renewed life satisfaction and deeper connections with those they care about.
My Counseling Approach
In my clinical practice, I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Internal Family Systems frameworks. I specialize in helping men feel more connected in their relationships by assisting them to acknowledge and address their internal experiences. Many men have been taught from a very early age to distance themselves from the emotional parts of themselves. Men have then become disconnected from themselves and others which results in feeling lonely, isolated, and stuck. I believe that growth comes when we explore our internal experiences with curiosity and respond in an understanding and transformative way. This leads to increased connection will all parts of yourself and a more balanced internal system.
Investing in yourself is the most important investment you can make.
